Hello Edmonton

Dec 16, 2025

When I was a teenager, I had a friend whose mom travelled a lot for work. One year for her birthday, she told her to book a flight to wherever her travel points would take us, and she would pay for a hotel for a few days.

Our options were Edmonton, Calgary or Kelowna, so we, being 16, obviously chose Edmonton because, mall. I still remember the pair of way-too-tall platform heels I bought and never, ever wore.

That, and the fact that it was November, everything was grey, and it was certainly not the late fall hoodie-weather we were used to on the coast, but more of a dry, windy cold that ripped through anything but the fluffiest parka.

Did we bring jackets? Of course not. A trip to the Muttart Conservatory had us almost turned into popsicles when we realized the bus had stopped running by the time we wanted to go home.

And so I figured, what better time to return to Edmonton than in January?

Want to join me?

I'll be in Sherwood Park on January 24th for a full day of knitty fun at A Yarn Rebel Affair.

In the morning, take my class Sweaters That Fit to learn all about crafting great-fitting sweaters. In this 3-hour workshop, we'll dive into topics like taking accurate body measurements, understanding ease, swatching with purpose, and choosing patterns that set you up for success. We'll also explore different sweater styles, how they’re designed to fit, and how to select the right size for your body—plus some of my favourite tips and tricks.

You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of sweater construction, your own measurements, a reusable printed resource, and fresh inspiration for your next cast-on.

Then, come back for an evening of making, mingling and meaningful connections. Hear my story as a designer, join the Pip & Pin FO parade, and shop at the Pretties Pop-Up, an exclusive marketplace just for attendees.

I can't wait to visit this part of Canada again, but this time I'm bringing a coat!

See you there!

Why I'm Knitting a Sweater at the Wrong Gauge
A few weeks ago, I cast on a new sweater project, the Rosie Sweater by Le Knit. This one!    For this sweater, I'm using a gorgeous wool from Ancient Arts Fibres held with a strand of mohair from Knitting with Olive (my first time knitting a sweater with mohair, can you believe it?!).   And before I cast on, I swatched. I made two swatches, actually, one with the colourwork and one without, ...
How I Make Money as a Knitter
Making money as a small business is hard, and finding room to pay yourself is even harder. I spent many years as a knitter, working at craft markets and selling digital patterns online, and seemingly making a lot of money, only to see it go right back out the door.  So, what changed? Well, in short, I learned a system that allowed me to always make sure I was taking something home, and eventu...
A Provisional Cast On for the Perfect Fit
Did you know that you don't have to knit a sweater in the same order as the designer?  A few weeks ago, I started knitting the Paul Klee Sweater by Midori Hirose, but there was one thing I knew I wanted to change — the neckband.  It has a high neckline, almost mock turtleneck-like, and while it is gorgeous, I know it's not something I could wear without feeling like I'm being strangled.  So, ...
