In 2010 we started Pip & Pin at a kitchen table with Grandma's yarn stash and no plan at all. Sixteen years later we're still here. We built it through design school, day jobs, babies, a move to another country and plenty of plot twists. We never had a quiet year.
This is a relaxed, honest conversation about how we did real life and built a business anyway. We'll share our stories, the lessons behind them, and a question for each one to take back to your own work.
12 lessons from 16 years. Here are a few:
- You don't need a perfect plan to start
- Notice when success doesn't fit your life
- When you see a door, walk through it
- Let your business change when your life does
- Find a way to do the thing that feels too big
- Keep building, one pattern at a time
鈥lus 6 more, each with a story and a question to take back to your own work.

YOUR HOSTS
Megan & Katie
Megan is the designer behind Pip & Pin. She's written over 100 knitting patterns, had her designs published in books and magazines, and teaches sweater fit and design at Knit City and online. She's the one knitters know from our patterns, videos and classes.
Katie is the strategist. With a background in design and ecommerce, she built the Pip & Pin brand, then the marketing, systems and courses behind it.
Together, we've run Pip & Pin since 2010, and we've published four books, built two signature courses (Knitwear Design Mastery and Altering Sweater Patterns), and taught more than 1,600 knitters.
This is for knitters (or creatives) who:聽
- Dream of designing their own patterns but feel like life is too full right now
- Have ideas in a notebook they've never quite started
- Want to hear how real people built a creative business around kids, jobs and everything else
- Want to turn your craft into income without burning out
- Love a good story (and a little honesty about what didn't work)
